Summer positions will run May-August 2027. Co-op and Internship positions may extend beyond the summer term depending on the requirements of the academic program and the business. These terms may be 4, 8, 12, or 16 months in length.

To be eligible for the SECURE Student program, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available to work from May to August.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or individual holding a valid work permit or employment authorization.
  • Complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and Drug test if the role is considered safety-sensitive.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Operator Trainee Student provides operational support to the facility while gaining hands-on experience in oilfield waste management, waste and oil treatment, water clarification, and water injection operations.

 

The role supports day-to-day plant operations as well as increased seasonal requirements, including leachate management, stormwater pond management, vegetation control, and vacation coverage. Working alongside experienced Operators, the student will develop an understanding of plant processes, safe operating practices, and customer service requirements.

 

Where appropriate, the student may also spend time with the Manager and Supervisor to gain exposure to the financial and business aspects of facility operations. The role provides an opportunity to develop operational knowledge and capabilities that may support future employment opportunities within the organization.

 

This role is based out of Williston, North Dakota.

The Team

The Operator Trainee Student works closely with Operators, Supervisors, and the Facility Manager in a hands-on operational environment.

 

The student will receive guidance and training from experienced Operators while progressively developing knowledge of facility processes and operational responsibilities. The role requires strong teamwork, communication, and a willingness to learn while contributing to daily operational priorities.

 

The position also provides broader exposure to how the facility operates as a business. Depending on the student’s capability and progress, opportunities may be provided to work with leadership to better understand operational planning, financial considerations, and the connection between safe facility performance, customer service, and overall business results.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position within an industrial operations environment supporting waste treatment, oil treatment, water clarification, and water injection activities.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings and involves regular interaction with operational equipment, trucks, pumps, boilers, chemicals, and other industrial assets.

The role requires a strong commitment to safety, the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, and adherence to SECURE's health, safety, operational, and regulatory requirements. As a safety-sensitive position, successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements is required.

A Day in The Life

  • Support the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of waste treatment, oil treatment, and water injection activities.
  • Assist with seasonal operational requirements, including leachate management, stormwater pond management, and vegetation control.
  • Provide operational support during employee vacation periods and other periods of increased workload.
  • Assist with truck unloading activities, including oil emulsion, water, and vacuum trucks, and complete associated documentation.
  • Support ongoing water injection activities, filter changes, and basic pump maintenance.
  • Assist with boiler operations, testing, and steam system activities as trained and authorized.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly plant inspections and checks.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), permitting requirements, hazard assessments, and other established safety processes.
  • Support the timely completion and entry of required safety and operational documentation, including iTrak items.
  • Perform general housekeeping and cleaning to maintain a safe and organized facility.
  • Interact professionally with customers and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Work alongside experienced Operators to develop knowledge of oilfield waste management, water clarification, water injection, and overall plant operations.
  • Participate in additional operational projects and assignments based on business requirements and individual skill level.
  • Gain exposure, where appropriate, to the financial and business considerations involved in managing facility operations.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, General Education Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Valid and acceptable Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment testing.
  • Valid and current safety certifications as required for the position, which may include H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, and TDG.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established operating and safety procedures.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with customers.
  • Willingness and ability to learn plant processes, equipment, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to take direction, work effectively under supervision, and progressively develop greater independence.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and meet the physical requirements associated with plant operations.
